Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan marked the thirty-third anniversary of the country’s independence by stressing that independence isn’t an abstraction or a final destination but a process of daily work and dedication.

On August 23, 1990, the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR adopted a Declaration of Independence that culminated in the September 21, 1991 independence referendum.

Khachaturyan, in a statement today, said the 1990 independence declaration was a document by which the Armenian people asserted their age-old dream of having an independent state.
