Avoid Armenia-Azerbaijan Airspace, Warns Aviation Consultants
Dyami, a Holland-based aviation security consultant, issued a warning yesterday calling on all aviation to avoid the airspace between Armenia and Azerbaijan given the “high probability of full-scale conflict between the two nations.”
“If a full-scale conflict breaks out in the region, air travel will be severely affected, as it would be unsafe to travel anywhere near the territories of Armenia or Azerbaijan. This would close yet another option for commercial aviation between Europe and Asia,” Dyami warns.
The warning was picked up by Aviation International News (AIN), which quotes Dyami CEO Eric Scouten saying “This is a truly dangerous emerging hotspot.”
Osprey Flight Solutions, another aviation risk management company, has also issued a security warning designating both the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and the Nagorno-Karabakh region as "high untreated risk airspace at all altitudes. This is the security group's second-highest risk assessment rating on a five-tier scale.
