Israel Aerospace Conducts Missile Trial in Azerbaijan
The Israeli Globes financial newspaper reports that Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has successfully completed demonstration operations of the Barak MX missile interception system in Azerbaijan.
IAI is Israel's major aerospace and defense company, specializing in the development and production of advanced air, space, maritime, land security systems. The company, founded in 2018, is fully owned by the Israeli government.
IAI describes Barak MX as an advanced air & missile defense system that can target fighter planes, cruise missiles, UAVs, helicopters and gliding bombs from distances ranging from 35-150 kilometers.
Globes writes that while IAI didn’t specify in which country the trial exercises took place, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry confirmed it was the country.
The newspaper cites the Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense as saying this was a planned exercise designed to improve the country's air defense system.
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry, on September 13, published a video of the missile exercise and claimed the Barak MX was used to detect and shoot down a ballistic missile fired by a theoretical enemy.
