Armenpress: U.S. State Department Refutes Politico Claim that Blinken Warned of Azerbaijan Invasion of Armenia
According to Armenpress, the United States Department of State has refuted a Politico claim that U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told a group of congressional lawmakers that his department is tracking the possibility that Azerbaijan could soon invade Armenia.
Armenpress, owned by the Armenian government, writes today that U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that the information contained in the article is "wrong" and "does not reflect what Blinken told lawmakers."
Yesterday, the U.S.-based Politico newspaper reported it was informed of Blinken’s remarks according to two people familiar with the conversation.
Politico wrote that during an October 3 phone call, a group of Democratic Party lawmakers pressed Blinken on possible measures against Aliyev in response to his country’s invasion of the Nagorno-Karabakh region in September.
"The United States strongly supports Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We emphasized that any violation of that sovereignty and territorial integrity will lead to serious consequences. The information in this [Politico] article is incorrect and in no way reflects what Secretary of State Blinken told the lawmakers," Armenpress writes, quoting Miller.
