
Canada Opens Embassy in Armenia
A delegation led by Armenian National Assembly Vice President Hakob Arshakyan met with their Canadian counterparts at the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Luanda, Angola.
The IPU is a global organization of national parliaments with 180 members and fourteen associate members. The IPU, according to its website, facilitates parliamentary diplomacy and empowers parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace, democracy and sustainable development around the world.
Arshakyan announced that Canada is opening an embassy in Armenia. Canada now has a consulate in Yerevan.
Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan and Canadian Ambassador to Armenia Mélanie Joly today attended the official opening of the embassy in Yerevan.
Arshakyan, according to his office, presented the situation resulting from the September 19 attack by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh, which led to the ethnic cleansing of the Armenian population.
Canada’s delegation to the IPU is led by Salma Ataullahjan.
