Armenia, Azerbaijan Selected as UNESCO General Conference Vice-Presidents
Armenia and Azerbaijan were two of the thirty-one member states approved for the posts of vice-presidents of the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference now underway in Paris.
Deputy Director of the French Le Figaro newspaper Jean-Christophe Buisson described Azerbaijan’s approval a “disgrace”.
"UNESCO did not consider it expedient to condemn the Azerbaijanis for nine months, when the education of thousands of Armenian children was disrupted by the blockade of Artsakh. And now it elects Azerbaijan to the post of vice president of its General Conference. Disgrace," he wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) microblog.
In response to Hetq's inquiry, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan said the countries were chosen without a vote.
