Armenian Police Arrest Twenty-Six for Attacking Lake Sevan Inspectors

Police in Armenia have arrested twenty-six people on charges of stealing a Sevan National Park boat used to monitor fishing in the lake and throwing molotov cocktails at government inspectors.

The country’s Investigative Committee (IC) reports that on December 19 two boats belonging to the Gegharkunik Water Patrol Service were attacked while monitoring a section of Lake Sevan near the town of Gavar.

The IC claims some two hundred fishing boats, filled with masked men, approached the monitors, shouted insults at them and threatened to set the government boats on fire.

Some of the masked men boarded one of the government boats and hit the monitors.

An investigation of the incident is ongoing.
