
Pashinyan, Iraqi Kurdish Leader Meet in Munich
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and President of Iraqi Kurdistan Nechirvan Idris Barzani met today on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference․ Pashinyan’s office reports the two emphasized the need to expand business ties and discussed regional issues.
The Kurdistan Region, which lies a few hundred kilometers from Yerevan, is an autonomous administrative entity within the Republic of Iraq.
Armenia opened a consulate in Erbil, the Kurdistan Region’s capital, in 2021.
Nechirvan Idris Barzani is the grandson of Mustafa Barzani, a famous Kurdish leader who led the Kurdish Revolution and armed resistance against successive regimes of Iraq and founded the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), the largest party in Iraqi Kurdistan.
