Pashinyan Honors Victims of 2008 Election Protests in Yerevan
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan laid flowers at a Yerevan memorial to the victims of the March 1, 2008 presidential election protests that rocked the Armenian capital and left ten dead and hundreds wounded.
The protests followed what many in Armenia regarded as the rigged election win of Serzh Sargsyan as president.
Pashinyan, at the time, was a key ally of Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who officially came in second place in the February 19, 2008 vote.
Security forces violently dispersed the protests on March 1, 2008.
Pashinyan went into hiding after being convicted of organizing mass unrest and sentenced to seven years imprisonment. He was detained after resurfacing in mid-2009 and was released in May 2011 as part of a general amnesty.
