Exiled Artsakh Parliament Accuses Baku of Destroying Its Stepanakert Building

The Artsakh National Assembly, a body that basically exists in name only after Azerbaijan’s recapture of what remained of the Artsakh Republic in September 2023, today circulated a statement accusing Azerbaijan of destroying the building that once served as the republic’s parliament in Stepanakert.

The exiled parliament accuses Baku of systematically destroying and desecrating Armenian historical and cultural monuments in Karabakh despite calls by UNESCO to Baku to halt such actions.

The parliament accuses Baku of creating artificial obstacles to prevent a UNESCO mission to Karabakh to assess the condition of such monuments.

Armenia has repeatedly called for a UNESCO fact-finding mission to visit the region to protect Armenian cultural and religious sites now under Azerbaijani control.
