Armenia Admits Blame in April 10 Border Skirmish

Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) today admitted that an Armenian soldier incited an exchange gunfire with Azerbaijani border troops on April 10.

The NSS today reports that the unidentified soldier, along with Armenian border guards, crossed the border to assist a shepherd whose flock had gone astray.

One Azerbaijani border guard was injured in the skirmish.

“People’s lives and health were exposed to obvious danger, the described actions caused a threat to the security of the state, as well as a state of the lack of proper control in the mentioned section of the state border,” the NSS statement says.

Tensions along the border have increased over the past week with Armenia and Azerbaijan accusing one another of firing on their combat positions.
