Pashinyan Marks Citizen's Day: Elites No Longer in Power

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan today marked Citizen’s Day by claiming that the 2018 “Velvet Revolution” he led has removed local elites from running the country and has restored that right to the people.

The Armenian parliament, in 2019, passed a bill designating the last Saturday of April as Citizen’s Day to commemorate the nationwide protest movement that ousted then President Serzh Sargsyan from power.

“I congratulate you all on Citizen's Day. This is a day that you have created, each one of you, with the desire to live safely, dignified, prosperous and happy in your own home,” Pashinyan’s statement reads.

The Armenian leader confessed that much remains to be done to put Armenia’s “house” in order.
