Amnesty International Urges Armenian Government to Investigate Police Response to June 12 Protest
Amnesty International has called on the Armenian government to immediately investigate allegations that Yerevan police may have used unnecessary or excessive force on June 12 during clashes with those opposed to a border demarcation deal with Azerbaijan.
Natalia Nozadze, Amnesty International’s South Caucasus Researcher, yesterday announced “the response to protests, even when they turn violent, must be strictly compliant with international human rights law and standards.”
Scores were injured on June 12 and at least 98 people were detained during the protest.
