Yerevan Statue Marks First Anniversary of Gymnast Albert Azaryan's Death
A bronze statue of Albert Azaryan has been erected in Yerevan’s Komitas Park Pantheon to mark the first anniversary of the world-famous gymnast’s death.
Representing the Soviet Union, Azaryan won gold at the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games on the still rings.
Azaryan, nicknamed “King of the Rings”, was also a world and European champion.
The statue, sculpted by Gor Davtyan, depicts the gymnast performing his signature “Azaryan Cross” technique.
Azaryan died in Yerevan on September 5, 2023, at the age of 94.
