Armenia Seeks Help of Indian Aeronautics Firm to Modernize Its Su-30 Fighters
The Hindustan Times, in a September 14 article, quotes Colonel Hovhannes Vardanyan, who heads Armenia’s Air Force, as saying that Armenia wants the help of an Indian aerospace and defense company to upgrade its fleet of aging Soviet Su-30 fighter planes.
“We are looking at modernizing our Su-30s with the help of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) as it has a lot of expertise in the field,” the paper quotes Vardanyan as saying on the sidelines of multilateral Tarang Shakti 2024 air combat drills that concluded at the Jodhpur air base on September 13.
The Su-30 upgrade that Armenia is eyeing involves avionics, electronic warfare suites and weapons.
The paper writes that Vardanyan said he discussed areas of cooperation with Indian Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan at the International Defense Aviation Exposition 2024 organized at the Jodhpur air base.
