Pashinyan at U.N. Summit: "There is a future"
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, during his speech at the Summit of the Future in New York City yesterday, told world leaders that he came to power in Armenia in 2018 by touting the campaign slogan of “There is a future.”
The U.N. General Assembly, on Sunday, adopted a Pact for the Future to meet the challenges of the 21st century ranging from climate change and artificial intelligence to escalating conflicts and increasing inequality and poverty — and improve the lives of the world’s more than eight billion people.
“It may sound strange, but the most important thing we can do for the future is to create positive narratives and focus on the possibilities of creating the foundations for them, regardless of whether they exist now or not,” Pashinyan remarked.
Pashinyan said he brought a “sense of optimism” to Armenia and urged world leaders to do the same globally rather than focusing on the negatives.
“Unlike the previous three times, in my speech to the General Assembly this year, I will focus more on opportunities than on blaming neighboring countries. And it will give an opportunity to think positively and talk about opportunities. Yes, let's just talk for now, because ‘In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God’."
