Trump Attacks Harris Over Artsakh; Promises to Restore Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace
Donald Trump, on his Truth Social online platform, accused Kamala Harris of doing “nothing as 120,000 Armenian Christians were horrifically persecuted and forcibly displaced in Artsakh.”
Kamala Harris did NOTHING as 120,000 Armenian Christians were horrifically persecuted and forcibly displaced in Artsakh. Christians around the World will not be safe if Kamala Harris is President of the United States. When I am President, I will protect persecuted Christians, I will work to stop the violence and ethnic cleansing, and we will restore PEACE between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
It's assumed he's referring to Azerbaijan's September 2023 offensive that saw Baku recapture what remained of the Artsakh Republic following the 2020 war.
Trump, true to form, failed to specify how he will restore peace between Yerevan and Baku. Trump has also promised to end the war in Ukraine within a matter of days.
Trump, whose grasp of world history is woefully lacking, seems to have forgotten that Azerbaijan, with crucial Turkish military support, attacked Artsakh in the fall of 2020 while he served as U.S. president.
In 2019, then U.S. President Trump said he was a “big fan” of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following a White House meeting of the two leaders.
At the 2012 opening of Trump Towers in Istanbul, Donald Trump sang the praises of Tayyip Erdoğan, telling a mostly Turkish audience that their leader, prime minister at the time, was "highly respected" around the world.
On September 23, Democratic Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris expressed support for the “right for Armenians displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh to return safely to their homes.”
How their "right to return" will be achieved remains unspecified.
