Armenia to Host 2026 COP Biodiversity Summit
Armenia, last week, won its bid to host the 2026 COP Biodiversity summit, thus defeating a similar bid by Azerbaijan.
Armenia won with 65 votes out of 123 cast in a secret ballot at the UN Convention on Biodiversity’s (CBD) 16th Conference of Parties (COP16), held in Columbia.
Azerbaijan will host the next, 29th, annual COP on climate change this month.
Armenia, last December, dropped its objections to Azerbaijan’s bid to host the climate change summit as part of a deal that led to the release of thirty-two Armenian soldiers and civilians held in Azerbaijan.
Armenia has yet to decide whether it will accept Azerbaijan’s invitation to attend the summit in Baku.
