Armenian MPs Want to Ban Energy Drinks to Minors
Armenia is taking steps to ban the sale of “energy drinks” to those under the age of eighteen.
The Armenian parliament’s Standing Committee on Economic Affairs today approved the bill, introduced by several ruling Civil Contract party MPs.The bill now goes to the full parliament for discussion.
The MPs argue the bill will protect the health of young people and point to Ministry of Healthcare data that forty percent of young people in Armenia consume such drinks weekly.
“World Health Organization guidelines say such drinks shouldn’t be advertised for children. Some countries have already restricted the sale and advertisement of energy drinks, and we must also do so,” said bill sponsor MP Alkhas Ghazaryan.
