Armenian Apostolic Church Catholicos Karekin II and Luis Moreno Ocampo, who served as the first Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) from 2003 to 2012, met today in Etchmiadzin and discussed ongoing steps to facilitate the release of Armenians detained in Baku.

Catholicos Karekin II, according to his office, thanked Ocampo for using his status to protect the rights of displaced Artsakh Armenians and for calling out Azerbaijan for its “genocidal policies” towards Armenians.

Ocampo, in a twenty-eight page opinion piece released on August 7, 2023, accused Azerbaijan of committing “genocide” against the Armenians of Artsakh.
