Two-Day Genocide Forum in Yerevan
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan told those attending the fifth Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide in Yerevan today that the international community has failed to prevent crimes against humanity and genocides.
“Even days ago, on December 9, International Genocide Prevention Day, in different corners of the world and especially in zones of armed conflict, we are witnessing genocidal actions, manifestations, impulses that speak of new crimes against humanity maturing,” Mirzoyan said.
He said the world responds to genocides and other mass crimes only after the fact and gave the examples of the 1915 Armenian Genocide and the forced expulsion of Armenians from Artsakh.
The two-day forum is taking place at Yerevan’s Matenadaran (Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts).
Panelists include Egils Levits (Former President of the Republic of Latvia), Fernand De Varennes (Former United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues), and Melanie O’Brien (President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS).
