
Moderate Earthquake Hits Armenia; No Casualties Reported
A moderate magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck seventeen kilometers northwest of the town of Vanadzor in Armenia today at 09:26 local time (05:26 GMT) according to the country’s Seismic Protection Territorial Service.
No casualties have been reported.
The earthquake was felt in Armenia’s Lori, Shirak and Tavush provinces with a magnitude of 4-6 points, and in the Kotayk, Gegharkunik and Aragatzotn regions with a magnitude of 2-4 points.
Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that as of 12:30 local time, forty-five aftershocks have been recorded
The ministry says aftershock activity will continue for some time, during which weak and medium-intensity seismic events may occur, which may be felt by the population in residential areas.
