
German President Says Berlin Supports Armenia's Peace Agenda
Armenian Nikol Pashinyan and his wife, Anna Hakobyan, today hosted visiting German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Mrs. Elke Büdenbender, who are on an official visit to Armenia, at the Government House in Yerevan.
Pashinyan, according to his office, noted that the visit is historic as it is the first visit of a German president to Armenia.
Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia and Germany enjoy active and deepening cooperation and noted Germany’s support for democratic reforms in Armenia.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier thanked Pashinyan for the warm reception and noted that his country attaches importance to deepening multi-sectoral cooperation with Armenia.
The German president considered cooperation in the fields of economy, investments, infrastructure development, energy, tourism, education and culture to be promising.
He expressed his country's support for the development of Armenia-EU cooperation and conveyed Germany's support for Armenian government’s peace agenda with Azerbaijan.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife today laid a wreath at Yerevan’s Tzitzernakaberd Memorial to pay tribute to the 1915 Armenian Genocide victims.
