
German President, Wife, Visit Etchmiadzin
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender visited the Etchmiadzin headquarters of the Armenian Apostolic Church on April 1.
Given that the German president will travel to Azerbaijan following his official visit to Armenia, Supreme Patriarch of the Armenian Apostolic Church Karekin II requested that Steinmeier raise the issues of the just rights of the people of Artsakh, as well as the release of Armenian prisoners of war, and the preservation of Armenian spiritual and cultural heritage in Artsakh,
The German president, expressing gratitude to His Holiness Karekin II for the opportunity to visit the ancient Christian holy place, emphasized the role of religions in ensuring peace and solidarity in the lives of peoples.
Steinmeier said that he would use his mediation efforts to promote the establishment of final peace in the region.
The German president accompanied by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Germany, Bishop Serovbe Isakhanyan, toured the Etchmiadzin Cathedral and got acquainted with the history of the renovated sanctuary.
