Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, addressing the 134th Ministerial session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE) in Luxembourg today, said Armenia remains firmly committed to promoting sustainable peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus.

Mirzoyan said Armenia supports the CoE’s “New Democratic Pact” for Europe initiative that aims to confront the challenges posed by the erosion of multilateralism, the weakening of the human rights system, the worrying trend of the retreat of democratic values and the growing disillusionment of society with democratic institutions.

“Armenia reaffirms its strong support for this initiative and is ready to actively contribute to the realization of its goals of making democracy more resilient, inclusive and future-proof. In this context, I am pleased to note that my country has made progress in strengthening the pillars of democracy and improving its position in various indices, most recently in press freedom, ranking first in the region.”
