Ter-Petrosyan Lambastes Pashinyan as Divisive Leader

Former Armenian President Levon Ter-Petroyan has criticized PM Nikol Pashinyan for taking a series of provocative measures that divide rather than unite, the people of Armenia.

Ter-Petrosyan, in a statement published by ilur.am  (a news website in Armenia) chastises Pashinyan for failing to resolve the myriad issues facing Artsakh-Armenians who fled in Armenia following Azerbaijan’s military takeover of the region.

“Recently, Pashinyan has been responding to the just demands of more than a hundred thousand Artsakh residents who have found refuge in Armenia with reproaches, insults and, sometimes, vulgar expressions. The latter, in desperation, knock on hundreds of doors, but not finding a proper response to their requests and demands, are forced to express their protest with mass demonstrations, sit-ins, rallies, blocking streets, etc.”

Ter-Petrosyan says that his government established a special agency in the 1990s to deal with Armenians who fled Azerbaijan following the anti-Armenia progroms there.

The former president also lists Pashinyan’s recent aggressive moves against the Armenian Apostolic Church, the arrest of businessman Samvel Karapetyan, and the nationalization of Armenia’s electricity grid as further proof that Pashinyan is undermining the country’s internal stability.

“Any head of state, who is surely not crazy, strives first and foremost to create stability in his own country. There are, of course, truly crazy leaders (Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein and others), who, unwillingly or intentionally, contrary to this imperative, create instability themselves,” Ter-Petrosyan writes, thus questioning Pashinyan’s motives and mentality.
