Makunts Steps Down as Armenia's Ambassador to U.S.

Lilit Makunts has ended her four-year stint as Armenia’s ambassador to the U.S. 

At a farewell reception held in the Armenian embassy in Washington D.C. on August 22, Makunts expressed her sincere gratitude to the United States and all of her partners for their continued support during her diplomatic tenure and reaffirmed the strength of Armenian-American ties based on shared democratic values.

Makunts was awarded the Kansas National Guard’s 'Medal of Excellence' in recognition of her four years of service and significant contributions to bilateral security cooperation between Armenia and the Kansas National Guard.

In her farewell speech, reflecting on her four-year tenure, Ambassador Makunts   highlighted the signing of the historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8 in Washington, D.C., as a key event facilitated through the mediation of U.S. President Donald Trump.
