
Police Arrest Armenian State Pedagogical University Rector on Bribery, Fraud Charges
Police today arrested the rector of the State Pedagogical University in Yerevan on charges that she created and lead a criminal organization composed of various university employees that committed embezzlement and fraud, and that she accepted bribes.
Anti-Corruption Committee Press Secretary Marina Ohanjanyan told Hetq that one of the university’s vice-rectors and other staffers were also arrested in the case.
Srbuhi Gevorgyan was elected rector of the university in 2022.
What exactly Gevorgyan and the others are charged with doing has yet to be published.
The university, founded in 1922 and named after the 19th-century Armenian writer Khachatur Abovian, specializes in preparing teachers and offers bachelor's, master's, and postgraduate degrees.
