Catholicos Aram I, Cyprus President Meet in Nicosia

Catholicos Aram I met with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides on Monday in Nicosia and discussed issues concerning the Armenian communities in Cyprus, Lebanon, Syria, and the broader Middle East.

Among the topics discussed, according to a statement released by the Great House of Cilicia, was the renovation of the historic Magaravank (Sourp Magar Monastery), located in Turkish-occupied Cyprus.

Catholicos Aram I stressed Cyprus’s unique role in the region, its diplomatic relations, and its upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, set to begin on 1 January 2026.

At the meeting’s conclusion, Catholicos Aram I presented Christodoulides with a handcrafted wooden Armenian cross and an illustrated catalogue marking the thirtieth anniversary of his enthronement. Christodoulides gave the church leader a commemorative gift reflecting the history and culture of Cyprus.
