Davos: Armenia, Azerbaijan Presidents Celebrate Peace Deal
The presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan made their first joint appearance since their peace deal at a Euronews panel yesterday during the Davos World Economic Forum.
Euronews reports that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called the agreement a major benefit to both countries and the South Caucasus, noting it transformed hostility into cooperation.
He stated that Azerbaijan restored its sovereignty and achieved peace with Armenia.
Armenian President Khachaturyan credited Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Aliyev for their leadership and told the panel he had little to add to Aliyev's remarks because "I'd have to repeat the same thing."
Khachaturyan highlighted specific signs of change, mentioning that people living in Yerevan are now able to purchase Azerbaijani fuel for their vehicles.
"In the past, just talking about this would have sparked hostility. But this is our current reality," he remarked. "We should be grateful that our countries' leaders took this route—one toward the future and peace between our nations."
