UN Delegation in Armenia to Assess Electoral Process Needs
Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan and a delegation of the UN Electoral Needs Assessment Mission met today in Yerevan and discussed what Armenia needs to improve the electoral process and to strengthen public trust in it.
Abisoghomonyan, according to his office, noted that the visit of the UN Electoral Needs Assessment Mission is a good opportunity to identify Armenia's priority needs, assess risks related to hybrid threats, discuss issues of international support for electoral reforms, as well as strengthen long-term institutional resilience.
The United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) provides a range of electoral assistance, but most of its support focuses on tailored technical assistance. This can include, for example, legal, operational, and logistical assistance to develop or improve electoral laws, processes, and institutions.
Assistance is delivered based on Needs Assessment Missions, aimed at understanding the needs and capacities of the various election stakeholders and making recommendations for UN support to related electoral processes.
