Armenia Opens Embassy in Swiss Capital Bern

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Ignazio Cassis, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, attended the opening ceremony of the Armenian Resident Embassy in Bern on March 12.

Mirzoyan, according to his office, said that the new embassy in Bern will become another important landmark in Armenian diplomacy, while serving as a bridge, connecting the two countries’ governments, institutions, and business communities and peoples even more strongly.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Switzerland were established in 1992, shortly after Armenia gained independence.

The Armenian government decided to its embassy in Switzerland from Geneva to Bern, the Swiss capital, last month.

Since 2002, Armenia's embassy and its permanent mission to the UN and other international organizations have operated in Geneva.
