All Schools in Armenia Will be Managed by the Ministry of Education
In Armenia, general education institutions are overseen by various government agencies.
Starting on September 1, 2026, those institutions currently managed by regional governors will be transferred to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. As of September 1, 2027, schools overseen by the Yerevan Municipality will also be transferred to this ministry.
To implement these changes, the National Assembly passed amendments to the Law On General Education on October 24, 2025. As part of this process, an amendment to the 2010 order issued by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports was proposed and released for public discussion.
The draft legislation aims to clarify the legal framework and regulations pertaining to the "authorized body of the institution." Additionally, it stipulates that the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the relevant regional governor’s office, and, in Yerevan, the Yerevan Municipality, shall each appoint one member to serve on the councils of general education institutions.
