Pashinyan, New EUMA Head Meet in Yerevan
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan today, in Yerevan, met with Satu Koivu, the new Head of Mission for the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA).
The Mission is tasked with observing and reporting on the situation on the ground on the Armenian side of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, contributing also to human security in these areas. The current mandate of EUMA runs until February 2027.
The two, according to Pashinyan’s office, discussed issues related to the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as ensuring stability in the region.
The civilian mission EUMA is an essential component of EU efforts to support peace and stability in the South Caucasus region. It was launched in February 2023 by a decision of EU Foreign Affairs Council in response to an official request by the Armenian authorities to deploy a full-fledged EU civilian mission on the ground.
EUMA, with a staff of up to 209 experts and mobnitors, is deployed on the Armenian side of the international border with Azerbaijan. It is based in Yeghegnadzor, with six Forward Operating Bases in Yeghegnadzor, Jermuk, Martuni, Kapan, Goris and Ijevan and a liaison office in Yerevan.
