Armenian Deputy FM: Normalizing Relations with Turkey Has Stalled
CNN Turk quotes Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan as saying that Armenia is ready, both politically and technically, to open its border with Turkey and that the ball is now in the hands of Ankara.
CNN Turk spoke to Kostanyan who travelled to Turkey to attend the 2026 Antalya Diplomacy Forum that ended on April 19.
Kostanyan said the current focus is on the Alican border gate, while technical work also continues to reopen railway links between the two neighbors.
Regarding the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Ankara, Kostanyan said Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan’s official visit to Türkiye on June 20, 2025 gave new momentum to the relationship.
While calling the visit historic, Kostanyan said despite that political progress, the situation in Armenia-Turkey relations remains unchanged.
“Unfortunately, Armenia-Turkey relations on the ground are still in the same condition as one, two, three years ago,” he said according to CNN Turk.
