Armenia's Garnik Cholakyan Wins Silver at European Weightlifting Championships
Armenia’s Garnik Cholakyan won a silver medal at the European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi, Georgia, in the men’s 60 kg category.
In the snatch, Cholakyan lifted 120kg and 124kg, securing second place in the discipline. He successfully lifted 145kg and 150kg in the clean and jerk to finish third.
Cholakyan’s combined total of 274kg placed him second to Bulgaria’s Angel Rusev who finished first with a combined lift of 275 kg.
This was Armenia’s first medal at the European Championships that started yesterday. In the 53 kg women's competition yesterday, Armenia’s Tanzela Grigoryan took sixth place and Izabella Yaylyan took ninth place.
Cholakyan won a bronze medal in the combined event in Chisinau last year with a result of 275 kg.
