Police in Armenia today arrested Artur Avanesyan, who heads the security team of businessman Samvel Karapetyan’s Strong Armenia Alliance.

The country’s Anti-Corruption Committee confirmed the news but said it would not provide further details at this stage.

According to our information, the investigation is related to election bribery.

The alliance is regarded as a top challenger to Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party in the June parliamentary election.

Avanesyan previously served as a commander of a special force’s unit in the Artsakh army.
