Syria’s Armenian Union Party Criticizes Exclusion from Electoral Process

The Armenian Union Party (AUP) of Syria has called for ensuring Armenian representation in country’s parliament, criticizing what it describes as the marginalization and exclusion of the Armenian community from the current electoral process despite its longstanding historical presence in the country.

The Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reports that the AUP, in a statement, stresses that the success of any political process in Syria depends on national partnership and fair representation of all components without exception.

The AUP underlines that the Armenian community, with its historical and cultural heritage, constitutes a fundamental pillar of Syria’s mosaic society, adding that excluding this community undermines the principles of national justice and negatively affects the legitimacy of the political process and the future of national representation in the country.

The AUP (Hay Miutyan Kusaktsutyun) is a political organization based in northeastern Syria that represents the Armenian community. Formally launched at a 2025 founding conference in Hasakah, the party operates within the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and advocates for decentralized democracy, constitutional recognition of Armenian rights, and fair representation.

The AUP, a member of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), engages in local political and cultural governance across areas with historic Armenian populations, such as Hasakah, Qamishli, and Aleppo.
