Thousands Attend Strong Armenia Party Rally in Yerevan

The Strong Armenia party held its final campaign rally in Yerevan’s Republic Square on June 3.

Party leader Samvel Karapetyan, a businessman holding Russian and Cypriot citizenship, was detained in June 2025 on charges of calling for a coup after criticizing the Armenian government's actions regarding the Armenian Apostolic Church.

He spoke to supporters via a video linkup. As the main challenger to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract party, the party has heavily campaigned on preserving traditional values and defending Armenia's identity and ties with Moscow.

Because dual citizens are barred from being prime minister, the party has positioned his nephew, Narek Karapetyan, as its political frontman to top its ballot in the June election.

The party aims to introduce a legislative amendment in the parliament to remove this sole-citizenship requirement.
