Hunger Striker Osipyan Refuses Medical Exam

Artur Osipyan, a former resident of Artsakh who has been on a hunger strike for twenty-two days, has refused to undergo a medical examination as a sign of protest.

Attorney David Harutyunyan notes that his client has lost significant weight and is in poor condition

Kamo Manukyan, director of the Center for Penitentiary Medicine, confirmed to Hetq that Artur Osipyan is refusing a medical examination, but did not disclose information about his health, citing medical confidentiality.

Osipyan was arrested on May 18, 2026, after an argument with Nikol Pashinyan, when he approached the prime minister during the June 7 election campaign.

Osipyan verbally criticized Pashinyan's handling of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and accused his administration of supporting corrupt political elites in Artsakh.

Pashinyan responded to Osipyan with harsh language: “Why are you alive? Why didn't you die, you scum?" and told him he should have gone and died in place of Armenian soldiers.

On May 21, 2026, a court detained Arthur Osipyan for two months on charges of making public calls to use violence, hooliganism, and obstruction of election campaigning.
