Pashinyan Sues Karapetyan, Strong Armenia Party for Defamation
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan has filed two lawsuits against businessman Samvel Karapetyan and his Strong Armenia party, demanding that they refute statements made during the parliamentary election campaign considered defamatory and pay AMD six million drams in compensation for each.
Karapetyan, in a May 25 interview, claimed that Pashinyan has a house in Canada. Pashinyan refutes this.
On May 27, the Strong Armenia party alleged that, if reelected, Pashinyan would bring 300,000 Azerbaijanis to Armenia. Pashinyan denies the claim and calls it defamatory.
Pashinyan is seeking a refutation delivered in a live video by at least three media outlets, each with at least 200,000 YouTube subscribers, using the exact wording specified in the court ruling.
Karapetyan’s Strong Armenia party came in second in the June 7 parliamentary election.
