The Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem has expressed deep disappointment over the removal of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide from the Israeli Knesset’s voting agenda, considering it extremely worrying about the potential influence of the Azerbaijani regime on Israel’s internal political and moral decisions.

The Patriarchate, in a statement, has reiterated its call on Israel and Turkey to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide and underscores its sacred mission to preserve historical truth.  

Israel’s cabinet on June 28 voted to formally recognize the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office removed the resolution from a planned parliamentary vote following direct diplomatic pressure from Azerbaijan, leaving the cabinet's earlier symbolic approval as a reversible resolution rather than official state policy

“The fact that the regime of the Republic of Azerbaijan, responsible for the forced displacement and exodus of more than 120,000 indigenous Armenian Christians of Nagorno-Karabakh, can postpone or even decide what issue can be brought to the Knesset for discussion is particularly puzzling to us,” the statement reads.

The Patriarchate writes that the Armenian Genocide is an undeniable historical fact independent of political circumstances and remains firmly established by historical documents.

“The legislative agenda and deliberations of the Knesset are matters that should remain the sovereign responsibility of the State of Israel,” the statement reads.
