Global fast food chains are increasingly looking to Armenia as a potential new market.

Armenia features a mix of popular local fast-food chains serving regional staples like shawarma and lahmajun alongside selective international brands like KFC and Burger King, with expanding additions like Wendy's.

Subway is the latest international brand that wants to open fast food outlets in the country.

On August 6, Armenia Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan and Subway Regional Director Efe Celik sat down in Yerevan to discuss a potential deal to open sixty Subway restaurants in Armenia.

Armenian investor Levon Hayrapetyan also attended the meeting.

Celik argued that Subway can contribute to the creation of new jobs, the development of a culture of international franchising, the involvement of local suppliers, as well as the introduction of international standards in Armenia's public catering sector.

The ministry did not announce when Subway could begin operating in Armenia or provide a timeline for opening the proposed restaurants.
