Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, alongside ministry officials and the heads of Armenia's diplomatic missions abroad, visited the Margara border checkpoint on the Armenia–Turkey border today.

The purpose of the inspection was to evaluate the facility's modernization and overall preparedness for future operations. During the visit, Eduard Hakobyan, the Chairman of the State Revenue Committee, officially briefed the delegation and confirmed that the border checkpoint's renovation and technical upgrades are finished and fully prepared for operation.

The Margara border checkpoint is a critical land crossing point on the Armenia–Türkiye border, located in the Armavir Province of Armenia. It sits directly across the Arax River from the Alican checkpoint on the Turkish side.

Despite its technical readiness, the land border remains officially closed to the public due to broader geopolitical negotiations. Full opening is tied to bilateral normalization talks and ongoing peace treaty negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

While closed for regular traffic, the checkpoint is occasionally opened for strict humanitarian purposes. In June 2026, it was temporarily opened for ten days to transport eighty tons of humanitarian aid from Armenia to Lebanon through Turkish territory.
