Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met today in Bishkek on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.  

Pashinyan’s office reports that the two emphasized the historical significance of the peace summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025.

The export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, the transit of grain and other goods originating from third countries through the territory of Azerbaijan to Armenia, as well as the establishment of trade relations between the two countries were highlighted as important practical manifestations of the strengthening of peace.

The two officials  also welcomed contacts between their countries’ business communities and exchanged views on the opportunities for further expansion of mutually beneficial economic, trade and energy cooperation.

The parties recognized the key role of the state border demarcation commissions and emphasized the need for them to continue their work in line with agreements reached by Armenia and Azerbaijan.

They discussed practical next steps for implementing a key outcome of the Washington Peace Summit: the Trump Initiative for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). They also underscored the importance of connectivity projects under the initiative.

They welcomed confidence-building contacts involving parliamentarians and civil society representatives, noting their role in strengthening mutual trust and advancing the broader peace agenda.

Pashinyan and Aliyev agreed to continue direct bilateral efforts to strengthen lasting peace, normalize interstate relations, and improve connectivity.
