Armenian President Thanks Czech Republic for 1988 Spitak Earthquake Assistance
Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Czech President Petr Pavel today attended an event dedicated to the Czech Republic’s assistance to Armenia in the wake of the 1988 Spitak earthquake.
The event, at the Czech Presidential Palace, brought together Czech rescuers who took part in the rescue mission in Armenia following the devastating earthquake along with organizations that coordinated humanitarian fundraising efforts.
In his remarks, President Khachaturyan thanked everyone who stood by Armenia during the difficult days after the earthquake.
At the close of the event, Czech rescuers conveyed their greetings to the people of Armenia through President Khachaturyan and presented him with the Order of the Czech Rescuers as a symbol of friendship and solidarity.
Khachaturyan arrived in the Czech Republic yesterday on an official visit.
