Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, addressing the International Space Summit in Paris, boasted that Armenia has entered a new stage in the development of its space capabilities and pointed to the 2022 launch of its first satellite, ARMASAT-1.

It successfully completed its mission in November 2025 after providing three and a half years of imagery to support national development, environmental protection, and border surveillance.

“Just one year later, we reached another milestone with HAYASAT-1 - the first Armenian satellite fully assembled and tested by Armenian specialists,” Pashinyan said.

Hayasat-1 functioned as a scientific testbed while gathering data intended to support natural disaster management, border control, and academic space research. It completed its mission in April 2025,

Pashinyan said that Armenia intends to operationalize at least three satellites: two for Earth observation and one for telecommunications, while developing sovereign ground-based infrastructure and domestic capacities for satellite command, control, data reception, processing, and analysis.

“We also plan to establish a distributed network of ground stations, which could serve not only Armenia’s national needs, but also support international space missions and the growing demand for satellite data and services,” Pashinyan added.

Pashinyan said that Armenia wants to participate more actively in international space programs, enabling Armenian engineers and companies to contribute to the design, engineering and manufacturing of complex systems and equipment for space exploration.

Pashinyan said that Armenia acknowledges the growing convergence between space and artificial intelligence.

“In this context, we are developing a broader national concept of a “Garden of AI Factories,” aimed at creating an ecosystem of advanced computing and artificial intelligence capabilities to support research, innovation, and technological development across sectors,” Pashinyan said and pointed to the new Firebird AI factory, developed in cooperation with NVIDIA, in the country.

Launched in August 2026, the Firebird AI factory in Hrazdan is the largest artificial intelligence computing infrastructure in the CIS region and the first AI supercomputer in the Caucasus.
