Berlin’s Museum Island Partners with Armenia for Landmark Ancient Artifact Exhibition in Yerevan

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Berlin’s Museum Island (Museumsinsel Berlin) and the 35th anniversary of Armenia's independence, six Berlin museums have teamed up with Armenia for an unprecedented cultural dialogue.

An international exhibition bringing together highlights from the collections of Armenia's History Museum and Berlin’s Museum Island will open in Yerevan on September 21, Armenia’s Independence Day.

The exhibition, titled “Myths, Cults and Cosmology: Museum Island Berlin at the History Museum of Armenia,” is being held with the financial support of Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Armenia, and in cooperation with the History Museum of Armenia and Berlin’s Museum Island.

It pairs fifty objects from Berlin's collections with fifty matching treasures from Armenia.

The items explore shared ancient narratives, religious practices, and cosmic mapping from regions like Babylon, Egypt, Assyria, and ancient Armenia. Notably, it features 12th–11th century BC bronze models of the solar system from Berlin that are being shown to the public for the first time.

The partnership will continue into the fall of 2027, when the collaboration moves back to Germany. Berlin's Museum Island will host a return exhibition showcasing rare archaeological treasures traveling directly from Armenia.
