Armenia Maps Energy Grid Strategy for Massive Firebird AI Data Center

Yerevan – The Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) of Armenia hosted a working discussion today to evaluate how the newly opened Firebird AI data center will integrate into the national energy grid. PSRC Chairman Mesrop Mesropyan led the meeting, which brought together technical representatives from Firebird AI and the “Electric Power System Operator” CJSC.

Project Context & Scale

The meeting follows the August 2026 launch of the Firebird AI computing facility in Hrazdan, which stands as the largest AI data center in the region. Backed by a multi-billion-dollar public-private partnership involving NVIDIA and Dell Technologies, the megaproject is designed to position Armenia as a global hub for sovereign AI infrastructure.

Key Discussion Topics

  • Officials focused heavily on the logistical and technical requirements of scaling the facility's power demands:
  • Grid Connection: Establishing stable, physical infrastructure linkages between the Hrazdan facility and the high-voltage transmission network.
  • Capacity Allocation: Securing the massive power loads needed as the site transitions from its initial operational phase toward its target capacity of 300 megawatts by the end of 2027.
  • Grid Impact Analysis: Assessing the strain on Armenia's domestic energy supply, given estimates that the fully built-out infrastructure could consume upwards of 35% of the country's electricity.

During the session, the "Electric Power System Operator" and Firebird AI executives presented independent technical observations and engineering proposals. The stakeholders concluded the meeting by establishing a cooperative framework and a timeline for future regulatory reviews to ensure grid stability while supporting the country's tech expansion.
