33 Meter High Cross to be Consecrated

A giant cross measuring 33 meters tall and comprised of 1,711 smaller crosses, symbolizing the years that Armenia has accepted Christianity as its “official” religion, will be consecrated on October 20.

The cross has been erected along the Yerevan-Abaran highway on a hill overlooking Tar-Karer Park.

The cross is a project of the Nig-Abaran Compatriotic Union and RA Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan, the union’s president, will be on hand to officiate. Hovsepyan was the one who came up with the idea of the giant cross in the first place.

On the same hill as the cross, an altar called the “Altar of Hope” will also be consecrated.

Each year, a new cross will be added to the body of the larger one.
